Family day care educators must complete a Food Handling Course that is nationally accredited.  This maximises the safety of the children in acre as well as build upon existing educator experience and qualification by extending their professional development.

  • In accordance with the Food Act 2003, any family day care educator who provides meals must register with the local Council as a food handling business. Environmental Health Officers inspect the Family day care educator’s premises to ensure compliance with relevant legislation and codes of practice
  • Before preparing, handling and serving food, family day care educators wash their hands in accordance with the procedures in the Guidelines.  
  • Food is always served using tongs and gloves. Where possible, food is served in individual plates or bowls.
